Thankfully there are small houses out there like Vero Perfumo, still challenging the sterility of mainstream perfumery. Oddly though I feel, like light and dark, they need one another to highlight flaws and potential beauty. It's an interesting thought. I wore some Magnetic Scents, Mona Di Orio, Huitieme Art, Arquiste, Nez a Nez, Angela Flanders, A Lab on Fire in the last couple of days so I am happy that there is still sublime fascination to wear and revel in. I so agree with your thoughts about beauty - the over-primped, plasticised and macdonaldised idea of beauty I see everywhere is frankly depressing! There's something about it that seems to deny humanity, or apologise for the aspects of being human that are actually interesting. I remember seeing Charlotte Gainsborough in the film version of 'The Cement Garden' and even at that age she was a revelation - there was a fascinating kind of rawness and truth in her performance. <br />The 'perfumes' geared towards the mass market - nasty clean florals, toilet cleaner aftershave are, thankfully, increasingly challenged by niche perfumery.
